Help showings work harder.
- Especially in winter, have photos of your home in other seasons: the flowering yard, the autumn view.
- Pets and kids are gone, pet dishes and kitty litter are out of sight.
- Clear hallways and steps of any clutter.
- Put money, jewelry, and valuables (including guns) away in a safe place.
- Sweep and tidy the garage.
- Leave lights on and window treatments open. Soft music works. Oh, and leave the toilet lid down.
- If you’re home when a buyer and agent arrives, ask for cards before allowing them in. Then make yourself
inconspicuous—run an errand or take a walk.
Be ready for inspection.
- Make sure your inspector has easy, unobstructed access to your crawl space, HVAC system, hot water heater,
electrical panel and plumbing behind all sinks, showers and tubs.
- Change the furnace filter.
- Be sure there’s a working smoke alarm on every floor.
- All doorknobs should be working and all handrails tight.
- Have working keys for all locks—security grates, sheds and outbuildings.
