Fitler Square

This Victorian neighborhood is just a few blocks from the business district and a ten minute walk to the University of Pennsylvania, just across the Schuylkill River. Its fortunes have risen and fallen; in the 1830’s those now-charming alleys were packed with poor shipworkers, and 50 years later Philadelphia’s wealthiest citizens were building mansions down the street. This is a comfortable, low-key, very residential neighborhood. Fitler Square itself is a beautiful oasis, and the riverside trails of Schuylkill River Park are perfect for recreation.
