This elegant neighborhood holds block after block of restored 18th Century townhouses, as well as much of “America’s Most Historic Square Mile,” including Independence Hall. It’s named after a group of hardworking colonial merchants, the Society of Free Traders, who probably never dreamed that the cobblestoned streets where they hustled the merchandise would take on a “society” air. Horse-drawn carriages drive tourists about, local farmers pack the old Headhouse Market, and the river and I-95 are a few steps away.
